Pets are important to our clients

A beloved pet is important for many of our clients. Their pet is often their closest or only family, someone they can trust no matter what. For a person who is often lonely and struggling with much in their life, a pet can provide a positive experience and be a source of real enjoyment.

Recently, we were able to help a client who is living in his car with two dogs. John (not his really name) needed food for all three of them while waiting for his Centrelink payment to begin. He could then access an accommodation service.

Another organisation helped him for a few days. I was pleased that we could also assist him. The amount was small, but it meant that he could keep going for the next week without him or the dogs starving.

Being able to help meant the world to John who significantly expressed his appreciation to the volunteer who meet and assisted him.

When the St John's Care Winter Appeal was launched we asked our supporters to consider giving generously. So far, we have received donations of $42000 for which we give thanks.

However, Winter has just begun and there is still time to make a tax-deductible donation before the end of the financial year to assist us in proving food for the hungry in the coming cold months.
