St John’s Care offers hands-on opportunities for volunteers to work for the sake of others.
We rely on donations of food to stock our shelves. Your non-perishable donations provide people in need with immediate support. Click here for a list of grocery and other items.
Did you know?... you may be able to get a tax deduction for food and goods you donate to people in need?
When you bring in a bag of groceries bring the receipt and you will get a tax deductible receipt for the amount you spent.

Your donation- in-kind will only attract a tax deduction if the goods are new, bought within twelve months and you have a receipt to prove it.
WE CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOUR HELP
Some days are so wet, miserable and cold despite the time of year. Many of our clients sleep rough or in their cars and come to St John's Care for help.
One young girl came to visit us. She is twenty and in receipt of Youth Allowance, which is so very little. She has not lived at home for three years, but her Mum will not sign the papers so she can receive a higher rate of Youth Allowance. If she did there would be a little more to live on and maybe enough to pay some rent. But this total breakdown of relationship means cold nights.

One elderly man came to see us and asked if we had any spare coats. He has little to live on and cannot afford to turn on his radiator at night. Electricity is just too expensive.

A young family including a young baby came in to St John’s Care, needing help with ‘everything’. They had been robbed and their apartment cleaned out completely so they were left with nothing. They were trying very hard to care for their little one, and also finding it difficult to meet the high price of electricity.
We were able to help them out with food to replenish their stores, a few household items and a voucher for baby formula from a local pharmacy. They appreciated the kindness and care of the volunteers who assisted them at this distressing time.
